There are a number of different makes of camera equipment in Dons gear bag, but given his choice, he favors Nikon, which he has used continuously since the mid-1970s. Don still regularly shoots 35mm film with a Nikkormat FTn. This particular camera body has been through countless shoots, often in "less than ideal" conditions. Beyond the very occasional visit to the shop for routine cleaning and service, it has proven to be an utterly dependable tool.
For portraits, products, architectural and landscape shots, Don employs whatever is most appropriate for a particular job. That equipment can range from large format 4X5 view camera, to medium format 2 1/4 square, to 35mm film, or to DSLR. Don lets the needs of the image dictate the medium
On the digital side, Don uses Nikon D200 and D300 DSLR bodies. Currently, the majority of Don's surf photography consists of digital images that employ a Nikon DSLR along with a growing selection of Nikkor AF lenses.
In the "digital darkroom", Don works with Adobe's suite of Photoshop CS3, Lightroom and Illustrator as the primary tools for processing and/or creating his images and graphics.
Don created and maintains this website using Adobe Dreamweaver CS3
Don's PC hardware consists of a Dell 3ghz Pentium 4, with 2 gigabytes of memory. It is running on Microsoft Windows XP Professional. A Wacom Intuos 2 digital pen tablet is also employed.
